Welcome on the AWARE website

With the final conference on the 30th of November last year in Gent, Belgium, the AWARE project came to an end. And yet, lasting bonds were established and the products of the AWARE project will find acceptance in the countries and regions of the project partners. On this website you can find the main results of the AWARE-project, ranging from risk communication to virtual crisismanagement and quality assurance in emergency planning.
The AWARE project focuses on conscience communication and transnational cooperation in cross-border regions in case of both natural and man-made disasters.

Groupphoto in Romania It focuses on the one hand on increasing the conscience and by doing so decreasing the vulnerability of the people in cross border regions during and after a disaster by improving the information and communication sources and canals. This requires a structural approach.
Nowadays the existing information and communication channels mainly focus on their own inhabitants. On the other hand  AWARE focuses on the contents and structure of the information and communication between local and regional authorities in cross border regions before, during and after a disaster or a severe accident. The aim is that local governments take into account the cross-border effects of their decisions and to make sure they inform the authorities across the border.
Sustainability and quality assurance are the results of the project.

The European Lead Partner of the project, which is co-financed by the INTERREG-funds, is the Province of Zeeland (The Netherlands). Other partners are Province of East-Flanders (Belgium), Province of West-Flanders (Belgium), Taurage County Governor's Administration (Lithuania), Kent County Council (UK), Essex County Council (UK), Bihor County Council, The inspectorate for Emergencies Situations of Bihor County (Romania), Arad County Council - Arad County Inspectorate for Civil Protection (Romania), Hadju-Bihar County - Local Government of Hajdú-Bihar County (Hungary), Sovetsk - Administration of the City of Sovetsk Kaliningrad Red. (Russia).
